Some Christian. Laying in bed fighting back sleep. Scrolling through YouTube music. Seeking something inspiring to post. Pouring over all those playlists and countless songs with uplifting lyrics. Some with lyrics expressing feelings you don’t need to have. Others with memories that you have of inspiring times that no one else would get the meaning of.
And where and all that stuff are inspiring songs about God‘s grace, love, and power?
It’s no secret you prefer big booming traditional hymns like A Mighty Fortress or Holy Holy Holy. The classics you’d hear in your Baptist Church and it’s Catholic Organ.
But even in the inspire playlist you’ve got about 20 songs and only one or two about what gives you inspiration itself. Him. And as a fine dose of irony… it was Crow that introduced you to it.
You don’t really know where you are right now on any path. But you need to have more things in your inspire playlist that come from above.
There’s nothing wrong with other stuff that inspires you. You’re even pretty sure there’s somewhere in the Bible where it says to embrace good things that are done even when not in God’s name… because… they are still good things. You know you’re butchering that concept. Because you just don’t feel that close to Him at the moment.
Needs to change, and will. But as much as you love some of that inspirational stuff… The source of your inspiration kind of needs to play more of a role in it.
You never understood Christian rock, but it was some peoples jam, so you’re glad they had it. A huge number of your God-proclaiming tunes stem from some of those bellows Irish bar songs… which presents a bit of a conundrum. You can’t have alcoholism without alcohol. And as much as you enjoy your Dropkick Murphys, you’d give all that up to live in a world without people having to put up with those struggles.
Some friends want to start Bible study again and it can’t happen too soon. It’s cold out here. And you are no good to Him cold. Are you still bit?
Probably, but you still don’t know what it means. Don’t beat yourself up too much though. Strong foundation. You feel the cold, and want to be warm again.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Proverbs 22:6 NIV

Getting back in the groove is hard. Just like getting into it to begin with. “Hurry up… let me just do X, Y, and Z and I’ll be in good shape right?”
Sometimes you think it’s so much more difficult because it’s supposed to be. If you can just pray a certain prayer and everything magically come together, what have you learned? What have you earned? Like giving a teenager a car… they don’t respect it like they do a car they have to work to pay for.
We can get so impatient. It wasn’t till you were in your late 30s that you realize just how deep even just the Bible was. And even if you found the water of life, filled your cup and drank… there might be a blissful experience. You might feel that warmth you have missed.
But then you stand there with an empty glass. And invite regression.
Dad once said “Nothing difficult is ever easy.” As if it was some great philosophy. Corny. But every once in a while you run across some thing where wow it’s appropriate.
It’s almost as if God’s like “Good – I’m so glad you’re here. So now what?” And half the time you end up just standing there dumbfounded before wandering off and getting cold again.
You know where to go. You know He has the answers. But He’s not a magic genie. Hardly ever interacts on your terms. You’ve got to give Him a chance to interact with you on His…
And every single time you’re glad you did after the fact. Often times you even swear He’s probably giggling the whole time. 😂
Dig deeper. All relationships go two ways. Be sure you don’t want to just borrow strength. Because soon you have to give it back.
You can get strong. Anyone can. Can you stay strong? Healthy? Happy?
Warm?
Not without refilling the cup.
So find more music to draw you closer to Him. Work on making Him more a part of your daily life.
You are a reflection of what you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with Him. Things will be all right.
Way Maker. Thanks, Crow.
