Weeks or months

Hyperthyroidism. Anemia. Stage three kidney disease. Mammary gland tumors.

Goodness she is the sweetest cat. 14 years young. Still scampers sometimes coming out of your room. You’ve been on virtually three months of deployments knowing she was in good hands with the folks, but knowing she was slowly showing her age to the vet if no one else.

She loves to cuddle. Brush her face. She loves you rubbing her belly at night for a bit when you get into bed before coming back out to the living room to sleep.

Ted is one in a million. Not just the fact that she’s a super rare all orange female cat. But she is just the sweetest cat. She’s too old for drama. You thought about getting her a friend for a while, but after having Bill as a roommate for a decade, she’s earned being the center of attention in her golden years.

She’s not in pain; least not yet. Could always be worse; one day it will be.

Back in the airport for an early flight to West Texas. Again. It wasn’t too long ago you got back from being away from home since the Fourth of July. 8 weeks. You’d never been away that long. For anything.

Oh, there was one week you were “back”, with the pleasure of dealing with bedbug infestation. Well, it was about time with all the traveling you had done, and you’ve already had fun in the past with fleas and mold. So those darn things were the next ones on the list. Have to hope they’re gone. Only time will tell.

On the plus side, all that weight loss was great at Con. You had all manner of more energy. Though it did highlight that Flame was really having trouble keeping up. Both back surgery and foot surgery are on her near horizon. So yeah, good for her.

You don’t care what number is coming at you in March. You probably won’t have a cat in your life by then.

We are all just too young to be old.

Book of Ruth tonight. Good night for it.
